Sotoya Organic Tying Tobacco

Certified Organic Virginia Style Durum Tobacco

Offered in 1oz. Cloth Pouches
Grown With Respect and Prayer

Absolutely no chemical fertilizers or pesticides!

My Great Grandfathers grew an especially flavorful Virginia tobacco that was prized by the western Cherokee for use in daily prayer and blessing rituals. Early trading relationships between Cherokee and Lakota buffalo hunters in the Oklahoma territory brought this fragrant smoke to the Dakotas. The Durum style tobaccos were sold in cloth bags under names like Bull Durham and were flaked instead of cut. This made them easier to use for prayer bundles and pipe mixtures.

Sotoya is the Lakota word for Smoke. Tobacco is considered the herb most precious to Spirit as it carries our prayers and thanks when we make Sotoya.

Sotoya Organic Tobacco is the result of discussions my family has had over the years with many Indian people at pow-wows and medicine keepers on the Rez. Upon learning that we are tobacco farmers we are always asked for help in procuring natural tobacco grown without chemicals. We make this tobacco available today as it first became available 120 years ago, in hopes that it will again be used in prayer, humility and respect.
